York Racial Equality Network


York Racial Equality Network (YREN) is a voluntary organisation and registered charity and has been in existence since 1992. We aim to promote awareness of the needs of black and minority ethnic people in the York area by developing links with appropriate voluntary and statutory agencies and by encouraging a multi-agency approach to race justice issues.

YREN provides:

• Information and resources on race equality issues

• Independent, impartial information and mutual support to people experiencing racial harassment, victimisation, discrimination or isolation

• Hate crime reporting YREN is one of York’s designated hate crime reporting centres.

A hate crime is a crime which is motivated by prejudice or hate in connection with:

• Disability

• Race

• Religion

• Sexuality

• Transgender
