 AbleWeb York

What is www.ablewebyork.org?

www.ablewebyork.org is a community resource run by adults with learning difficulties and disabilities for people who need access to information and resources in an accessible format. www.ablewebyork.org provides information on training, creative resources, communication tools, activities and local events, as well as sharing local community stories. We also provide professional and affordable community media production services in York and the surrounding area, skilling, supporting and giving a voice to the disabled and our local community.

Why was it set up?

www.ablewebyork.org and the AbleWeb York Programme was set up by Accessible Arts and Media in 2007 in response to the need for creative, technical, and professional skills and training for adults with learning difficulties and disabilities. At around the same time, the Government outlined its own policies for making sure that disabled people had choice and control over their own lives. This included making sure that people have access to the information and resources that they need so that they can make their own informed choices. www.ablewebyork.org was set up in response to these needs.

What is the AbleWeb York programme?

The AbleWeb York programme is built around connecting and empowering the disabled community through the use of multimedia. AbleWeb York provides a safe and supportive place for local adults with disabilities to work together to try new things, learn new skills, develop a creative voice, and explore different professional roles and relationships. It is the only project in the area where disabled adults train and work together to provide community information and media services. For more information and to find out how to join our AbleWeb Programme please visit our AbleWeb York page.
